To Exercise or Not to Exercise

To exercise or not to exercise, whose choice is it really?

At first glance it would seem to be our decision. Have you ever wondered if there was any benefit in habitual exercise at all. If we decide to be sedentary isn’t that our choice? I have come up with some simple forms of exercise which produce unexpected health benefits to all.

Dancing is a great form of exercise. It can be as slow as a waltz or as energetic as street dancing! The choice is up to the dancer. The slower types of dance add a chance to just wind down and relax. This obviously relieves stress and frees our minds and bodies from the tension of our day. More energetic dancing can not only help most of us to lose weight but can also help to reduce cholesterol from our bodies. Now THAT has to be cheaper than pills and a whole lot more fun! Housework can also be done to music so we can improve our health at the same time as cleaning the house.

Tennis is also a good form of exercise. Many women who love a weekly game of “hit and giggle” do not realize the health benefits of this. The exercise forces more oxygen into our blood stream and this in turn helps to improve our health. Women do like to socialize over the tennis game and this improves our overall sense of  well-being. A good laugh actually helps our body to relax also and releases endorphins which act a lot like chocolate but without the fattening results.

Even playing totem tennis with the kids will improve our health in the areas of hand to eye co-ordination. This is something you can play alone or with someone else. If your partner in the game is agressive you will definitely get a work out. Increased exercise also seems to sharpen the mind making thinking that much clearer and decision making so much easier.

Habitual exercise will therefore add years to our lifespan. Surely this is something our families will thank us for. I personally have made the choice to exercise as I want to be around for my grandchildren. What about you?

To exercise or not to exercise – it certainly is our choice but we need to remember that our families are also affected by our lifestyle decisions.  We could also take a leaf out of this joke  and avoid the possibility of a fire. The saying is  “I gave up jogging because my thighs kept rubbing together and setting my pantyhose on fire!”

Have a great energetic and fun week.
